Education organizations independently determine the method, order, and frequency of assessments.<\/p>\n<p>Ongoing assessment of student performance is conducted by teachers in all school subjects. Interim assessments are administered after the completion of the school year and before May 31. Education organizations set a list of subjects in accordance with their own education programs and curricula, which are based on the State Mandatory Standards for General Secondary Education.<sup>20<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>At the national level, Kazakhstan administers the external assessments Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) and Unified National Testing (UNT) to basic and general secondary school graduates, respectively. Students in the ninth grade take EAA examinations in four subjects. Among these, Kazakh language is compulsory, and the other three subjects are determined annually by the Ministry of Education and Science. Students do not learn which subjects will be tested until the day of the examinations. Upon completion of general secondary school, students take UNT examinations.
