The revised mathematics curriculum was implemented gradually, beginning with Grades 1 to 3 in the 2009\u20132010 academic year, followed by Grades 4 to 7 in 2010\u20132011, and Grades 8 to 9 in 2011\u20132012.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of Grade 4,<sup>3<\/sup> students are expected to have studied the following mathematics topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Numbers and Operations\u2014Recognizing and counting numbers up to 9,999,999; place value; comparison and order; simple operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division); simple fractions; decimal fractions; and problem solving<\/li>\n<li>Algebra\u2014Properties of addition and subtraction; rules for identifying patterns and solving equations; and solving open sentences<\/li>\n<li>Measurement\u2014Measuring weight, length, area, and temperature; calculating circumference, area, and volume; and reading and writing time<\/li>\n<li>Geometry\u2014Recognizing shapes; types of triangles; intersecting, parallel, and perpendicular lines; and symmetry<\/li>\n<li>Statistics\u2014Reading graphical representations; and becoming familiar with range, median, mode, and mean<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By the end of Grade 8,<sup>4<\/sup> students are expected to have studied the following mathematics topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rational numbers<\/li>\n<li>Ratio and proportion<\/li>\n<li>Factors and multiples<\/li>\n<li>Fractions<\/li>\n<li>Decimals and percentages<\/li>\n<li>Algebraic expressions<\/li>\n<li>Mathematical sentences<\/li>\n<li>Basics of statistics and probability<\/li>\n<li>Transformation geometry, including reflection, translation, and rotation<\/li>\n<li>Geometry of quadrilaterals<\/li>\n<li>Parallelograms<\/li>\n<li>Triangles and circles<\/li>\n<li>Congruency<\/li>\n<li>Measurement related to length<\/li>\n<li>Volume and area<\/li>\n<li>Problem solving, or application of these curricular topics<\/li>\n<li>Principles of statistics and probability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Mathematics Curriculum in Primary and Lower Secondary Grades The mathematics curriculum in Kuwait underwent revision prior to 2008.
