The students assessed in TIMSS Advanced 2015 represent carefully defined populations of students taking courses in physics in their final year of secondary school. For the most part, they have taken courses covering high level physics content (including mechanics and thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and wave phenomena and atomic\/nuclear physics) as an integral part of pre-university coursework and are in particular physics programs or tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Countries\u2019 physics programs or tracks varied considerably in duration and intensity. The duration of the programs ranged from two years in France, Norway, and the Russian Federation to six years in Lebanon.
