In advanced mathematics, the Russian Federation participated with two populations of students—Profile students and a select subset of those mathematics students who were in an even more intensive program. The intensive program students have at least six hours of mathematics lessons per week.

The students assessed in TIMSS Advanced 2015 represent carefully defined populations of students taking courses in advanced mathematics in their final year of secondary school. For the most part, they have taken courses covering high level mathematics content (i.e., advanced algebra, calculus, and geometry/trigonometry) as an integral part of pre-university coursework and are in particular mathematics programs or tracks.

Countries’ advanced mathematics programs or tracks varied considerably in duration and intensity. The duration of the programs ranged from two years in France, Norway, and the Russian Federation to six years in Lebanon. The greatest number of hours of mathematics instruction in the final year of secondary school was reported for students in the Russian Federation’s intensive program (six hours plus lessons weekly), totaling 210 hours, and Lebanon’s select Grade 12 program, with 250 hours.

["post-259","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
