Use and Impact of TIMSS

Finland participated in TIMSS 1999 and TIMSS 2011, but not TIMSS 2003 or TIMSS 2007. The results of TIMSS 2011 were released when the development process for the new core curriculum (2014) for basic education was beginning. Between 2000 and 2003, TIMSS mathematics and science researchers actively participated in several national meetings and symposia organized by the Finnish National Board of Education. Concurrently, several articles and reports were published exploring the strengths and weaknesses of the Finnish education system in light of the TIMSS results.
