Instruction for Mathematics and Science in Primary and Lower Secondary Grades
Grade at Which Specialist Teachers for Mathematics and Science are Introduced
For mathematics, Grades 1 to 6 have six lessons weekly, and each lesson is 40 to 50 minutes. For science in Grades 1 and 2, students receive three science lessons per week, and each lesson is 40 to 50 minutes.
In Grades 4 and 5, students receive four lessons per week, and each lesson is 40 to 50 minutes. In Grades 7 and 8, students receive five lessons a week, and each lesson is 40 to 50 minutes.
Instructional Materials, Equipment, and Laboratories
Teachers in independent schools use a set of learning objectives based on the strands and objectives that form the core of Qatar National Standards, and use standardized textbooks distributed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
At Grade 3 students are taught by mathematics and science subject specialist teachers. All schools in Qatar have science laboratories that include all the necessary equipment to foster and enhance the teaching of science.
Use of Technology
The Electronic Learning Program is an initiative that was launched by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to develop the educational process and to provide e-services based on integrated digital technology, to enhance the efforts of the government of Qatar in improving the quality of teaching and learning.
The program’s main e-learning objectives are as follows:

- To increase the positive trend and raise community awareness about ICT and its impact on the teaching and learning process
- To achieve the educational aims of Qatar in effective ways, through handling the educational system with modern technology
- To reach learning outcomes that meet the challenges of higher education and the labor market

- To enable students to learn anytime and anywhere
- To develop a spirit of independence and self-reliance among students, promoting research skills and self-directed learning
- To enable teachers to teach in efficient and creative ways, by providing teaching methods that satisfy the need for variety among students10
