Multiple Comparisons of Average Advanced Mathematics Achievement
Because there often are relatively small differences between countries, Exhibit M1.3 shows whether the differences in average achievement among the countries are statistically significant.
The subset of Russian Federation students in the intensive program (six hours-plus of mathematics lessons weekly) and the students in Lebanon’s select program had the highest achievement and performed similarly. The next highest performing group included the United States, the Russian Federation, and Portugal, followed by France, Slovenia, and Norway, and then Sweden and Italy.
