Special Initiatives in Mathematics and Science Education

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Education, in-depth science and mathematics education is one of the focus areas of school education. Students have the opportunity to receive in-depth training in science and mathematics in innovative institutions, including lyceums, schools for gifted children, specialized schools, and 20 Nazarbayev intellectual schools in Kazakhstan.

In order to promote careers in science and mathematics, Kazakhstan actively takes part in international Olympiads, as well as coordinating them. Since 2011, Kazakhstan has been a country coordinator of the International “Silk Road” Olympiad. Kazakhstan also initiated the International Zhautykov Olympiad in mathematics, physics, and computer science.
